NISA [01 Aug 2007|06:05pm]

[ mood | calm ]

Hi everyone, I'm a big fan of the Bonzos and Neil, so I thought I'd join and let you all know that I'm uploading Bonzo and Neil stuff to my sendspace account and posting it at this thread at the Innesboard over at neilinnes.org. They're free for anyone to download, as it's part of NISA - the Neil Innes Sound Archive which is a collection of music and interviews Neil has had a part in.

My CD tracker list is linked there as well, so if you have any requests, let me know and I'll get them uploaded for you :)

x-posted to _we_are_normal, so apologies to anyone who sees this twice.

Helloo.. anyone still hanging around here?

My name is Vikki, and- obviously- I am a huge Bonzos fan!

So. Out of curiosity, what is everyone's favourite of their songs? Mine would probably have to be 'Rockaliser Baby'. :)

[ mood | impressed ]

BBC 4 have just justified their existence with "the canyons of your mind" their documentary about viv. my god! such a wonderful programme - and worry not if british people missed it, as it will no doubt be on constant replay as they often are on the channel - with reminsicences by such bonzos as neil, rodney and a rather oddly dapper "legs" larry in a shocking blazer. i particularly liked the fact that never for a *moment* sensationalised or trivialised the great man. no anecdotes from the keith moon era were wheeled out. oh no. this was a portrait of a great man that all involved loved very much and wanted to pay proper tribute to

and such footage! not only the usual "do not adjust your set" stuff, but bits of "stinkfoot", the final late show sessions, bits from "new faces" (songs i'd not heard before! oooh!) and particularly intriguingly something whose name i momentarily forget (but i think "sausage was in it" to paraphrase "11 moustachioed daughters") but seemed to be a colour film of life with the late sixties bonzos. there seemed so much footage as well: why does nobody try and release this as a bonzos/ viv dvd? so frustrating!

also nice to see bits of "rawlinson end" the film again in a much nicer print than the one i videoed off the telly about ten years ago or so... i was very impressed by the whole ruddy thing. really did the great man justice...

So, what rarities does anyone have to offer? I'd be especially interested in stuff to do with Do Not Adjust Your Set. If that's even possible. I don't know what I can offer in return. I have some rare Goodies episodes if that's anyone's cup of tea.

PS. Yeah!Collapse )

Neil last night [06 Feb 2003|06:29am]

[ mood | amused ]

If you want the full details go to innesownworld

This is what happened last night...

I met my friend Colin at The Drill Hall Theatre just before 7PM, then we waiting in the bar area until we were let into the small theatre.

Ronnie Golden introduced himself and sang "Shoe Boom" a very funny song based on that idiot who tried to blow up a plane by setting light to his trainers. It is done in the doo wop 1950's style of singing. So the do wop song "Sh-sh-sh boom" becomes "Shoe bomb"

Then the very attractive blonde producer Claire(?) Jones said a few words. And Ronnie's group RONNIE AND THE REX entered the stage. Followed by the whole radio cast: NEIL INNES, ELEANOR BRON, GRAHAME GARDEN, CLIVE SWIFT etc The only person missing was PAULA WILCOX. PAM AYRES took Paula's place.

Theme tune "The Right Time" performed by RONNIE & THE REX

4. NEIL & Graham You're getting more conservative
5. NEIL/Graham & others I saw John Lennon in 1965
7. NEIL/? Hello is anyone there
11. NEIL & Acting refined (actress/actors)
14. NEIL & Eleanor Bed-Friday night
16. NEIL INNES (only song of the evening by NEIL) "Say Sorry Again" featuring NEIL on keyboards and the drummer from Ronnie & The Rex
19. Eleanor/NEIL (as Richard) Up for adoption
26. NEIL/Graham Fatherly chat
28. RONNIE & THE REX theme tune "The Right Time"

Then the producer entered the stage & said they needed to do five re-takes. So little bits of 5 different sketches were performed again.

The Hat Song [31 Jan 2003|11:25am]

[ mood | chipper ]

An odd little ditty by Kevin Ayres (occasional member of the Soft Machine)which is rather Bonzoesque:

You say you like my shirt
My shirt
You say you like my hat
My hat
Oh but you never say you like me
Or something nice like that
What about me?
What about me?
What about me?
What about me?
Is it just an envelope that you can see?

You need to hear the recording to get the full feel (obviously!). But the quirky feel to it is definitely of the Stanshall/Innes variety.

I know Ayres was a contemporary of Syd Barrett et al, but does anyone know if he had anything to do with the Ginger Geezer or anyone else in the mob?

[03 Jan 2003|03:32pm]

[ mood | banana choose ]

My heart nearly missed a beat when I caught sight of none other than Neil "Neil" Innes who used to be on the credits of Bonzo Dog Records. What a richness of musical talent gathered under one head - and so cheap to. I couldn't resist telling him how much I'd enjoyed "Puppet on a String", but he just looked confused. Neil, who's not on drugs at all, was sitting at the piano with one leg thrown casually over, under, around, over, up, across, round, down, up, over and through the other one, like a young Eddie Waring. As Neil tinkled quietly to himself in search of new and dangerous melodies, the atmosphere in the control room was electric. What a pity the equipment wasn't as well.
